What is a Certified Home Health Aide?

A Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) is a professional caregiver who provides personal care for someone in their own home. If your are a patient and compassionate individual looking to start their career in the health industry and provide in home care becoming a Certified Home Health Aide is for you. 

In New Jersey caregivers have different certifications depending on what level of care they will be providing and whether it will be in-home care or in a facility. 

CHHA’s are licensed to provide personal care within a client’s home. This differs from other licenses such as Certified Nursing Aides who provide a higher level of care within a facility setting such as a nursing home. 

CHHA’s often assist with daily activities such as walking, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, going to the bathroom,  tracking vital signs, monitoring medication, companionship, grocery shopping and transportation. As a Certified Home Health Aide in New Jersey you may not administer medication or other activities that require further medical training. 

Certified Home Health Aide Classes must consist of 76 hours of training divided into two sections:

  • 60 Hours classroom instruction

  • 16 Hours clinical skills training

Please Note: If you are already a NJ CNA looking to work as a CHHA our 10 hour conversion class is for you. These hours will take you through the home care and hospice sections of the CHHA course to complete your training.

  • Are you a licensed CNA looking to be able to do in-home care? With our CNA to CHHA conversion class, you will be able to convert your license to include in-home care in no time.

  • The class Includes 10 hours of online study time overseen by a Licensed RN Instructor.

    *Upon completion students must pass a proctored final in our classroom facility. Students must earn 80% or better to pass.

    *Applicants must hold an active NJ CNA License

MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

  • The Certified Home Health Aide total course runs for one month and is composed of two sections. First, is an online section 60 hours of online learning spanning three weeks. Second, is a 16 hour clinical spanning three days.

    In accordance with New Jersey law students must successfully complete their full 60 hours of online learning before their scheduled clinical days begin.

    The Certified Nursing Assistant to CHHA total course is a two day 10 hour course

  • The CHHA course is $450 total. There is also an $80 submission fee to be paid to the State of New Jersey.

    The Certified Nursing Assistant is $250 total. There is also an $80 submission fee to be paid to the State of New Jersey.

    The course total must be paid in full before the start of class. On your final day of class the $80 submission fee must be paid by credit or debit card to the State of New Jersey.

  • The CHHA course is compatible with any tablet or computer connected to the internet. Each applicant is given a username and password that allows access from a device of their choosing. However, at this time we do not support smart phones as they are not compatible with the video components within the course.

    The CNA to CHHA course does not require the use of a computer.

  • Courses are typically scheduled every month.
